Rather than seeking preventative care, men put off visits to the dentist until major restorative cosmetic dentistry is required. The Penn Dental Association has issued a warning to men and women that preventative dental care leads to better overall health. To restate the obvious, when men let their dental health go down hill so does their over all health! Everyone should visit the dentist every six months. You life, not just your teeth, depends on it.
Men are more likely to have periodontal health problems. Possible early warnings include bleeding gums, sore gums, loose teeth and constant bad breath. To prevent these problems you should brush twice a day, floss and consume nutritious foods daily. “Studies have shown that systemic diseases, like diabetes, have a direct effect on the health of your gums and bone surrounding your teeth,” said Dr. Steven Grater, a PDA spokesperson. “Continued dental care will prevent these systemic diseases from allowing periodontal disease to destroy your oral health.”
Studies show poor dental health is linked to heart disease. Some heart treatments can lead to dry mouth and so your dentist needs to know what prescriptons you are taking. If left untreated, dry mouth can lead to tooth decay. Also, men are twice as likely to get oral cancer as women. Regular visits to Atlanta Dentist or Marietta Dentist are a necessity to stay on top of your health. A healthy smile is the wonderful byproduct.

As kids get ready for school again, its time to get their annual health check up Marietta Pediatric Dentist recommends kids may be given their dental check up as well.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay is the most chronic childhood disease in the U.S. – five times more prevalent than asthma and seven times more prevalent than hay fever. Yet it is a condition that is entirely preventable.
Helpin says that the key to prevention lies with early, regular visits to the dentist, which should typically be every six months. In addition to treating and preventing tooth decay, both children and parents get valuable information about maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
The American Academy for Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children first be seen by their dentist within six months of the first sign of a tooth, and warns that without continued preventive care, poor oral health could lead to a number of health and development issues in adolescence and adulthood.
“It’s important to establish a relationship with a dentist the same way you would with a pediatrician,” Helpin said. “This is the idea behind the ‘dental home’ – a place where an oral health care provider has established a relationship with the child. That doesn’t mean just treating an issue; it also includes preventive treatment and nutritional counseling.”

Types of sedation
Most dentists and dental surgeons use four main types of sedation.
• Oral sedatives
Medications administered orally like diazepam can be given to a patient the night prior to a procedure or an hour before the procedure, depending on the level of anxiety. It is important to note that oral sedatives to not prevent pain, so a local anesthetic injection will also be administered.
• Intravenous (IV) sedation
This type of sedation is administered intravenously, or by way of an IV. Like oral sedatives, intravenous sedation does not provide pain relief, so an injection of local anesthetic will also be administered in addition to this method of dental sedation.
• Nitrous oxide sedation
In one form of conscious inhalation sedation, nitrous oxide gas (or laughing gas) is used to induce a state of relaxation. This method also requires a local anesthetic to be injected along with the nitrous oxide—to eliminate pain.
• General Anesthesia
This method of dental sedation refers to the use of anesthetic to bring you to an unconscious state. Unlike other sedation methods, when you are under a general anesthesia, you will be completely unaware of your surroundings, so the use of a local the anesthetic is not necessary.

The profession of dentistry helps people in maintaining dental hygiene and preventing or treating oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry aims to improve the appearance of a person’s teeth, mouth or smile. It also restores the confidence of a person. Earlier dental fillings used to leave dark spots in the mouth due to use of gold, amalgam or other materials. That is passé because now with the use of porcelain or composite materials people can get a filling done which closely resembles the color of the teeth.
